We have two improvers' level Next Stage courses happening this term - both starting in mid-May. Each of these courses will pick up on a different aspect of things we have covered in Acting 101 & Acting 201, but they are also perfect for anyone who has done any form of drama course or been on stage before, and doesn’t need to do a beginner’s level course.

Our Next Stage courses give the student an opportunity to focus their attention on a specific performance skill and learn to apply it in front of a live audience. As the classes happen on different days, there is the opportunity for students who want more intensive training, to do more than one course at discounted rates.

All Next Stage Courses culminate in a live showcase performance in either the Town Hall Studio or the Black Gate Cultural Centre.

Improvisation & Comedy

Explore your Funny Side with Órla Mc Govern, Bob Hennigan, Sarah O'Toole and Conor Geoghegan.

Tuesdays, 7 to 10pm

This 12-session intensive course is an immersion into the world of comedy, culminating in a live comedy showcase at the end of term.

After two successful pilot terms earlier in 2019 we're taking our comedy course to the next level, with guest lecturers in Stand Up (Bob Hennigan), Improv (Órla Mc Govern), Physical Comedy (Conor Geoghegan) and Sketch Writing (Sarah O’Toole). We loosen our tongues and quicken our wits from the outset with some comedy improvisation, before developing some skills sketch writing and stand up. More improv and sessions in physical comedy will help us to embody those ideas before we bring them all together and rehearse for our showcase performance which will take place in a perfect comedy club environment in the Black Gate in mid-August.

Starts 14th May, Anno Santo Hotel, Salthill, Galway

Cost: €320 or €300 (student/unwaged) with an Early Bird Discount of €300/280 (student/unwaged) if you pay before 23rd April.

Scene Study

Tackle Challenging Roles in Scenes from Classic and Contemporary Plays with Sarah O’Toole and Conor Graham

Thursdays, 7 to 10pm

This 12-session intensive is not only an opportunity to develop vocal technique, but gets students into the nitty gritty of working with text and builds rehearsal skills as students prepare scenes and monologues from some of the world’s most exciting plays!

One of our most popular courses, this has been many a student's first experience performing on stage in front of an audience and we always aim to make it a special one! We have also had many experienced performers who want to hone their skills in taking direction, get more out of reading the script and bring more to the floor in rehearsal.

This term, not only will students get the opportunity to be directed in scenes from classic and contemporary plays by Actor/Director/Playwright Sarah O’Toole, but they will have the added extra of getting to explore vocal technique with voice coach, Conor Graham. After some initial exploratory workshops, students will then be cast, and the rest of the term will be spent in rehearsal for a showcase performance which will be performed in the Town Hall Studio on 16th August. We can promise you that the process from page to stage will be a fun one!
