This term, with a wide variety of beginners courses, we thought it would be nice to offer the option of an extended period of playtime and exploration without the pressure of going on stage! You can pick and choose from these six week courses to suit your level of experience and areas of interest.

Are you an absolute beginner? Our Acting 101 course run twice a term, and if you like it, you can take an Acting 201 course after mid-term or even after Christmas!

Already taken one a beginner’s course, but not ready/too busy to commit to the Next Stage? Why not start out with an Acting 201 course, and if you’re feeling inspired or get freed up, you can always take the second, as the topics will be different?

The wonderful thing about these shorter courses is you won’t need to make these decisions straight away, but see how you go over the first 6 weeks. Or even wait till after mid-term to sign up.

As always, our special discount of 10% off full price for two courses, 15% for three courses, 20% for four applies.

Acting 101

Your tutor Rena Bryson will take you through the basics to working with a script in six weeks, with a lot of laughs along the way! Each week will have a different theme - Presence, Where, Character, Relationships, Story and Text - with lots of fun games and group exercises to stimulate imagination and spontaneity and to get students comfortable working together, before moving into pairs for scene work.

Acting 201

Perfect for anyone who has completed any kind of beginner’s course, and would like to get deeper into the basics before moving towards public performance.

Voice and Text with voice coach and drama facilitator Conor Graham will be a gentle introduction into one of the most fascinating and life-enhancing aspects of theatre training. Through a mixture of physical exercises, influenced by his experience of the Roy Hart technique, group exercises informed by his experience of running vocal ensembles - he will encourage you to explore your voice in ways you never thought possible, and then bring this experience to bear on the speaking of poetic and dramatic text, both individually and in an ensemble. Students will come away with a changed relationship to their voice and their potential for using it.

Strengthening Your Acting Skills with theatremaker John Rogers will revisit the themes encountered in Acting 101 - Presence, Where, Character, Relationships, Story and Text - but in a much more detail while retaining a sense of playfulness. Building from a strong sense of presence, John will encourage you to develop your imagination and spontaneity, and show you how you can use these actor’s tools in any performance situations you might encounter once the course is completed. Students will come away with themselves with greater general confidence in their acting, and a deeper curiosity about the craft.

Following on from these, there will be Next Stage courses to choose from next term which will further enhance your skills and bring you towards your first public performance.
