Always wanted to give acting a try but didn’t know where to start, and Galway was too long a drive? We’re now bringing our courses to you!
In keeping with our aim to provide quality drama training for everyone all along the Western Seaboard, we’re starting our first 8 week course for adults at Cloughleigh Community Hall in Ennis, starting Wednesday 8th May.
The course is perfect for anyone who's always wanted to give acting a try, or just wants to build confidence, have fun and meet people. It’s also suitable for those who have done a little acting but want to deepen their knowledge of the craft, and learn specific skills. Your tutor Sarah O’Toole is an experience actor, director and facilitator and will bring you on a detailed tour of the basics over 8 weeks, with particular focus on character, relationships, objectives, space, ensemble, story-telling, voice, physicality and text. The last couple of weeks will be spent on scene work, where we apply all that we have learned in a rehearsal-centred environment, and students will gain experience in responding to direction as if they were in a play and coming up with their own interpretations of scenes and characters.
By the end of the course, they should have greater confidence in an audition or rehearsal situation and have tools to bring their own creativity to bear on the work.
Following on from this, we will be adding an Acting 201course during the Autumn semester and, over time, establishing courses that lead to public performances in a theatre venue. Watch this space!
